Description

April 1863 Outside Washington, DC

Having just returned home from the Union captured city of New Orleans, Captain Josh Calub realizes he’s still in love with his sister-in-law. He can’t be. He just can’t allow himself to be. It’s why he immediately heads for Washington to speak to the President about getting new orders. Maybe if he’s away from her, he can get on with his life and not live with the constant guilt. However, on his way through the city, he comes across an elderly man auctioning off his daughter. Seeing the exploited, terrified female on an auction block, makes his sense of decency rage. He outbids all others then learns part of the buying, is marrying the girl. It’s not what he planned on. Not at all. However, mentally debating it, he believes she might be the answer to his prayers; those of finding a way to put his sister-in-law out of his mind and heart forever.

Selene Gray has seen the worst men have to offer. She loathes and distrusts most, including her stepfather Horace Wilby who has abused her much of her life. She’s only known hard work, and little joy. When she unfairly gets fired from a Union Hospital, her stepfather intends to get even by selling her off. Her humiliation reaches its zenith when she’s put on an auction block. But when a handsome captain buys and marries her, she needs to learn how to survive this newest threat.

Josh and Selene’s love story delves into the harsh reality of war, and the raw emotions that it causes. Can they learn to trust? Love? Read their tumultuous story to find out…

Josh Calub is one of the best male characters I’ve read in years. He’s so true to form, confident but laid back. A genuine man’s man. When he meets Selene being sold, his honor, empathy, and sense of righteousness forces him to intervene to buy her. It’s then he learns part of the buying is marrying her, not something Josh had planned. He planned to reenter the war. He didn’t have time for soft feelings. A cold hateful war was going on, one he desperately wanted to help draw to an end. Got to give the man props at how he pulls it all off. A really well written story.

Josh IS a hero. What a down to earth, just all round great guy every woman would love to have. Seline made his perfect compliment. The Civil War details were the perfect amount and I’m not into history but this kept my interest. Wish more books came in this large print. No eyestrain.

  10. Ellen G

The way a romance should be written. STEAMY!

Destinies Intertwined and its sequel Honor Bound are two stories that pull you in immediately. Debra’s characters feel so real. Or so they appear. Each has their own set of odd quirks but remain lovable. Oh, I’m so glad Debra brought back Leo Hanley!

  13. Sandy G

Debra Russell’s imagination is off the charts! She just keeps putting these great stories out, one right after another. I can’t imagine being inside her mind! lol Just terrific, fascinating, riveting love stories that keep you from wanting tom put the book down.

I like that Selene is modest, humble and sincere. She makes the perfect match to Josh. So much heartache that goes down. Can’t forget the semi evil step-father. So many great supporting characters bring John and Selene’s love to life.

Josh Calub is the perfect husband for the neglected and abused Selene. He’s strong, decisive but gentle and caring. Their love story made my heart sing.

I purchased three novels from Ms Russell at a local book signing. She’s a very modest, down to earth person who takes pride in her writing. She was gracious enough to autograph everyone’s books and even answered our questions. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed her work. I’ve ordered more.

  18. Susan

    Well worth every penny!

Really liked Josh in Destinies Intertwined. He just keeps getting better! Poor, abused Selene, so glad Josh rescued her. Great story. Loved the surprises and the indepth emotions.

I got addicted to this story following reading Destinies Intertwined. Josh is one of those male characters if you were to meet him, you’d snatch him up in a heartbeat. Rough, yet gentle. Strong, yet caring. Selene is shy yet determined, been abused but she preservers. Two great characters who are meshed perfectly in a tail of war where a fragile love takes root, eventually overcoming all obstacles.

I love the characters! So glad Debra brought the chacters back from Destinies Intertwined plus added new ones. Made it so much more fun to read. A really good story. The Gettysburg section and Josh’s return home. It was deeply moving. It just shows how devastating wars are to families. Love how the author empowered Selene.

Love how Selene comes into her own becoming her husband’s… Well, I won’t spoil the story. You’ll just have to read it yourself.

Perfect entertainment! This story gave me hours of pleasure.

  27. Sandi D

I don’t usually go for sequels because they let the reader down with too much history. But that’s not the case with Honor Bound. It had just the right amount of backstory so if you hadn’t read Destinies Intertwined, this story stands on its own. Great stoy telling. Unique characters behaving in ways I didn’t see coming. Delightful to read.

  28. Adrianna Phelps

I love a book with a good ole boy hero. Especially one with a sence of humor. I’d marry Josh anyday!

  29. Edith K (verified owner)

This is one of those stories you don’t want to end. When it does, you feel satisfied yet you still want it to go on and on. I loved this story. Very well rounded characters.

I loved Destinies Intertwined, the book before this one. Honor Bound just picked up where the other ended. High emotional scenes. Grab your tissues. You’re going to need them.

  33. Aeliade C (verified owner)

I had the pleasure of meeting Debra Russell at a library book signing. She’s a genuine person. No fakeness or insincerity at all. I purchased three of her novels. I finished Destinies Intertwined. I could not put that book down and that one lead into the first chapter of Honor Bound so I was riveted again! My husband whine I neglected him lol I made it up to him.
